Abstract:
The methodologies of psychotherapy, including body psychotherapy, have arisen largely from contexts defined by dominant cultural systems. Popular intervention strategies’ implicit domination methodologies unwittingly compromise and subvert clients’ autonomy, initiative, agency and emergence. A significant body of research shows that these and other unwanted outcomes are prevalent but underreported, under-researched and unaddressed. Based on over 20 years of teaching and practicing in somatic psychology, Organic Intelligence®(OI) founder, Steven Hoskinson will speak to the most commonly used somatic techniques and their implicit assumptions most likely to be harmful, and offer a fundamentally alternative framework. Shining the light on implicit biases for domination is long overdue, yet a necessary “calling in” is hampered by a lack of a science-based clinical approach that is both disruptive of the status quo, and more fundamentally empowering of clients. Participants in this seminar will gain insights into alternative perspectives from OI’s Post-Trauma Growth, and post-trauma-informed worldview. Tools honoring the arising of wisdom and clarity from the Being of each client will be offered, and an example from a session will be shown and debriefed.
