What is the lived experience of healthy emotional validation in the body and what role can it play in personal liberation and transformation? This will be an experiential workshop intended to invite participants into pondering the positive power and somatic effects of emotional validation in their lives historically and presently.
The workshop will start with the presenter (Dawn Bulchandani) sharing an overview of what the essence of emotional validation is – including talk of mirror neurons and the idea that emotional validation is the enactment of embodied empathy. A cornerstone image will be highlighted: healthy emotional validation as a lightning rod for one's zippy energy looking for somewhere to find grounding. Validation orients itself around the emotional experience being shared. Validation is not necessarily agreement around philosophical conclusions, affirmation of behavior, or approval of choices preceding. Healthy emotional validation allows our energy somewhere to go/flow. Interpersonal neurobiology demonstrates the power of healthy emotional validation toward beneficial mental health, a sense of meaning, and healing trauma. When people feel emotionally validated, it brings their bodies into a place of fuller rest, safety, and felt hope.
